Stone Mambo leaves GF38 on Tuesday
The Alpine club confirmed on July 7 2026 that its central defender, Stone Mambo, has signed with FC Noah in Armenia. Arriving in the summer 2025 from Rodez AF, he played 19 matches in all competitions for GF38 before ending his Grenobloise spell.
Why the move?
GF38 said the decision was mutual: the player wanted a new challenge abroad, while the club needed to free up a salary slot. Mambo’s contract was expiring and no extension was offered. FC Noah, competing in the Armenian Premier League, offered a one‑year deal with a renewal option, an attractive prospect for the 24‑year‑old defender.
What does this mean for Grenoble?
Mambo’s exit creates a gap in the back line. GF38 had relied on him to steady the defence after a season conceding 45 goals in 38 games. Manager Frédéric Piquionne will have to reshuffle, likely giving more minutes to Jérémy Gagnon and Lucas Dufour, two promising youngsters already in the squad.
What’s next for the club?
The team announced it is monitoring the winter transfer market for defensive reinforcements. A possible signing could come from the Belgian league or France’s National 2. Meanwhile, GF38 focuses on the upcoming Ligue 2 fixture, where every point matters in the fight for survival.
Fans’ reaction
Supporters voiced disappointment on social media, recalling Mambo’s strong performances, especially his two headed clearances against Stade Brestois on March 12 2026. Still, they wish him luck in Armenia and hope to see him back in Grenobloise colours someday.
